Navy and USMC used '03 Springfields

Would the Navy used rifles have USMC marked Sedgley barrels and have had Hatcher holes drilled ?

The rifle that I am looking at has all the attributes of a USMC rebuild but the stock has rack numbers and the USMC marking on the barrel are weak on the S and M.

What kind of markings would be on a Navy rifle ? Would a USMC rifle have rack numbers ?

Springfield S/N 932850 if that matters.

Based on my observations, the Navy and USMC occasionally "cross-pollinated" rifles and parts. The Navy did indeed drill Hatcher Holes, althouigh infrequently. And they also used some USMC barrels. The presence of rack numbers in the stock is indicative of a Navy rifle, or a rifle that was possessed by a shipboard Marine contingent.

    Hope this helps.
