    1903 stock options

    hello all,

i hope you guys and gals havent gotten tired of my stupid questions... im new at this '03 game.

i am in the market for a stock for my SA 1918 '03. i know it wouldve come with a finger grooved straight stock. im not concerned with correcting the stock, im just looking for something to put the metal in. however, i do not want a new production stock.

ive seen on a certain auction site and other online stores stocks that say they fit both an 03 and an 03A3. can that be true? will any 03A3 stocks fit an 03? do all scant stocks fit both? or do i look for a straight stock only.

    thanks for all the help,
    douglas

Any M1903A3 stock will fit a M1903, but a M1903 stock will not fit a M1903A3 because of the handguard ring present on the M1903A3.

      hello all,

ive got a new stock question.... (ok, maybe 2 or 3)

ive seen here lately a few stocks that do not have any cartouches on them, just a few letters or numbers.

why is this? are these fakes? do the early stocks not have cartouches? since I am in the market, I am trying to learn before any purchases are made.

      thanks for your time,
      douglas

Cartouches were stamped on stocks with rifles in them when the rifles were accepted by the govt.
Rebuild Cartouches were applied on stocks with rebuilt rifles in them ( or re-inspected ala many OG stamped A3s are ).
        Spare stocks were not.
        Contracted replacement stocks were not.
Modern Production stocks usually are not .

There are Rock Island and Springfield rifles from 1918 and back that were given just one letter on the left side. See the book on 1903 Rock Island Springfields by John Beard and Nick Farris.
