USMC Stippled Butt Plate

I got this from a fellow Marine, he searched for this for a long time. I realize these can be faked, so I figured I would ask the experts on here about their thoughts on this.

Looks OK to me. Who's to say it IS fake. How do they know ?? I wouldn't give it a second thought. I bought one from a guy who thought it was "ruined". "Why would anyone do that to a perfectly good buttplate?"
