Can anyone identify this cleaning rod?

That is the Model 1916 jointed cleaning rod, and there was a canvas case for the rod. There was also a Model 1916 barracks rod that was not jointed.

Thanks Johnny. As you can see, it is missing the jag. Do you have any info or photos of the correct one?

I would have to find mine, but to the best of my memory that is the correct jag, and should be threaded for a brush.

I was thinking about an attachment for a patch and was not thinking about a brush. I will check some of my brushes and see if they work. Thank you for the information.

Yep, just use a 1" X 1" section of old tea shirt over that tip. It'll stay on. No need for a slotted tip. It's a good design.

1903 Cleaning rods

Hello, as stated your cleaning rod is complete. You just need a bore brush and the carrying pouch. For additional information I included a few other cleaning rods that would have been used during WW1. Top to bottom.. 1910 with pouch, 1913 with pouch, 1916 with pouch, and the 1916 Garrison Rod... hope this helps. Regards,

Interesting. A related question for you rod experts. Were these rods marked or stamped with a manuf name or other markings?
I have the exact rod shown above as the one-piece 1916 Garrison (Barracks) rod, but no markings are found on it. Also, any guess on the value?

I've been seeing them sell on ebay lately for around $50.00. The solid rod goes for around $22.00.

An interesting side to these cases----Marbles of Gladstone MI. purchased many 1916 cases, surplus and brand new. They stamped their name, address and their number of the rod they used the case for, on the outside. I have one marked R.N.LONG 8-18 on inside flap with a Marbles 22 rod #9728. I have seen several at gun shows here in MI where Marbles stuff is popular collectables.

I think they purchased the complete kits too, as I believe I have one like yours as well a 1916 in a Marble's pouch. If I can find them and have the time I'll post them.

To answer an earlier question. The M1916 rods are not marked. I'll have to check, but I believe the 1910 has 1910 on the knob, the pouch is RIA 1911, with bifurcated snap. The 1913 rod is stamped 1913 on the knob as well as all the sections to ensure that it was not mixed with the 1910 rod which it replaced. The pouch has a glove snap and is not stamped as I recall. There are no makers marks on these rods either. I hope that helps somewhat.
