Well we sure endured some of the same heat. I went to 29 Stumps summer of 80, Small Arms Repair school at Aberdeen in 81, and then was at the Stumps in 82 and 83 also. Folks just don't realize what 120' + heat is like, especially on a steel tank in flat desert.
I went to Ft. Bragg in spring of '76 for Counter Guerrilla Warfare School with the 5th-7th SFG, (2 plt's of us Recon Marines went up for 3 wks) some of the instructors were old SOG hands from VN. They brought in jeep trailer loads of foreign weapons for class, Stens, MG-42's, AK's, RPG's, Swedish K's, etc, true heaven for someone like us.

The rifle is complete, but appears to be a parts gun. The front band and bayonet lug/nose cap don't match, the rear sling swivel is a stamped 03A3, and the stock is a beautiful condition 1913 issue. But that's fine, I plan on using it as a shooter.
That serial number comes out to 11-42, not 11-41. I agree the barrel is probably a replacement.

There are a lot of people looking for a 1913 RIA stock - you could probably sell/trade it, get a nice stock and some money in the bargain. Does it have one or two stock bolts?

It has one stock bolt. There is also a L above the ornate circle P behind the trigger guard.

I have seen lots of 03's in my life, this one jumped out at me several weeks ago because of the stock. This is one of the nicest stocks I've ever seen on a 03.
I have spent many yrs as a custom gunmaker, have built some of exquisite $ wood, but this was the first 03 that caught my eye in over 40 yrs. I played with 03's as a young USN Sea Cadet in the 60's, owned every service rifle from a 1873 to an AR-15, except an 03.
I see from the forums these may command some high prices, but from where would I replace the wood with something as nice? I really like the figured finger groove stock, does anyone have a later dated stock with those features?

Can someone give me an email to send pic to? Will take some good pics tomorrow.
I do not use photo storage banks.

Nope, hit the wrong key - should be 11-42 on the second date, not the repeat.

Hey guys, thanks for your help. I came here with a question, got my answer.
I didn't come here to sell anything, and as such, will end this post now.
                  Stock is not for sale.
