    1923 sling?

got this in a box of pre war/WWI webgear and thought it was a 1923 sling... but it is marked with an ink stamp looks like " B M Co. 1942" it is in really nice shape and not dirty or stained.
would like to figure out what it is. I am interested in selling it.

Looks like a M1923 sling to me. I have seen them with WWII era dates before and I think the last one I saw sell went for $250-300.

Now that I think about it, I've also seem OD M1923 slings with mid-1950's MRT stamps on them as well. I think they may have hung around in service longer than people think.

If you look closely I think you'll find its stamped S. M. Co 1942. Not too many floating around and they can fetch some $$$.

Yep M1923 Sling. There is a guy over on CMP who is looking for one. Maybe you two can get together on a good dollar number.

thanks guys. wasn't sure on this one and now that I look real close it does seem to say "SM Co. 1942" I looked over at the CMP forum and some of the pics of the slings that are in the pictures are pretty dirty and worn. This one seems like it wasn't used much at all and I think I will put it on Gunbroker or ebay and see where it goes. probably start it at $250 and see what happens... unless someone on here wants it? PM me if interested.

Measure the length of it. With a 1942 date it was probably made for a Thompson and would be short for a 1903. I don't know what the lengths are, but if I remember correctly they were made in at least 2 if not 3 lengths.

OK, I got curious and looked it up. Here you go....

M-1 Garandy is correct. Hard to find item WWII dated. Harder to install!!

This thread is about the M1923 sling. That's not the same as the Kerr sling to which your link refers.

Speedgunner: They're not really hard to install - if you ignore all the bad instructions published over the years.

Looked at it and that is for the Kerr No Buckl sling. this M1923 is as long as a Leather 1907 sling.

Recent prices on Ebay run from $150-180.00. I've bought a couple in the last year, one at under $100 (Khaki, some wear) and another (Green, near new) for around $130, as I recall.
Contrary to popular belief, there is nothing wrong with the M1923 sling. Much confusion results from a couple of Training Manuals that tell you the Wrong Way to set the sling up! If you do it correctly, it works reasonably well. But it is a lot more complex than the simple M1 web sling that replaced it..............
It does require a semi-intelligent operator, which may be why it was replaced with the M-1!!
