just wanting some opinions on the following.the scope is no longer with it. just wanting opinions on the rifle itself.

The work contouring the hand guard looks a little wavy. The type "S" stock is always a bit of a controversy. i am inclined to doubt this one.

          Regards,
          Jim

Stock and handguard haven't known each other for very long, so I would say no.

The heavy-checkered buttplate on an S-stock? Someone did that just for show.

              What is the barrel date?

Just a couple of my observations.

I agree with jg on the hand guard. The stock looks awfully clean. I'm not sure it would have a NM butt plate either.

The rifle is not convincingly authentic.

Are the rails polished? And do you by chance have a picture of the receiver with the rear scope block removed? Are the screws at the magazine guard staked? Does the barrel have any USMC barrel vise markings?

I don't own the rifle. the rails dont look polished in the pics, the bolt is NS marked. the barrel looks original to the receiver with the 1933 date so I doubt there would be any wrench marks.

No where near a 1903 expert, but that sure is a really nice looking rifle, USMC or not.
