    1903 questions for the experts

Hi all, new guy here. Love this forum. I just recently picked up a SA 1903. Here are the points of interest, 649425 serial number, 4-17 SA barrel, small s at tip of stock, one screw FG stock which is marked ELH on the side. This is an early high wall stock. Proof P is almost gone. Bolt safety lug is marked C13. This rifle is all blued. I was wondering about the stock though. Isn't this way to early for the time period?

    Welcome to the forum!

Stick around. We appreciate good company!

You have surmised correctly. Your ELH high wall stock is indeed way too early for a 4-17 SA rifle. And in case you missed it, your rifle's bolt is from a 1913 Rock Island rifle.

    Hope this helps. Welcome again!

Thank you for the reply. What would be the correct bolt for this rifle?

A correct bolt for your rifle would have a straight handle and be marked I 8, I 9, I 10, or I 11 underneath the safety lug. The I's and 1's are nothing more than straight lines, i.e., sans serif.

        Hope this helps.
