sc 1903a3 Rear Sight Repair Question

During Garand matches over the last several years the rear sight sliding peep has moved under recoil. I have a new spring and screw for the sliding peep sight. In TM 9 1270 a drawing shows the parts of the rear sight, and as a non-gunsmith, can I just remove the screw and replace the spring under the peep sight? Or are there surprises waiting for me?

    Thanks for any help.

You can remove the screw and replace the spring. The only surprise that may be lurking is that the screw may be lightly swaged in place underneath. So it may resist coming out.

    Hope this helps. Good Luck!

      Sir,
Thanks much. The screw came out OK, my challenge was the amount of angle on the edge of the spring. After first replacing the spring I could no longer move the peep in the slide, but after a couple of tries of adjusting the angle a very small amount, now seem to have good tension, and while I can move the peep, it takes more force now than the first spring. I will test it at the range to see if the sight will stay put, but I think it will.

Thanks again for your words of wisdom.
