Yet another SRS check and opinions please!

Going to look at Springfield 1903, serial number 115228 tomorrow. I posted a few pics below. Please let me know your thoughts and what value you put on it. He is asking too much in my opinion (800) but I would like to make a fair offer. It has a AV barrel dated 2-18.

My SRS data has t he following entry for SA 1903 #115228 090126 Ft Riley (insp at RIA)

I don't know much about issue type 1903 rifles so can't comment as to originality, finish, etc.

I'm no expert, but a two bolt stock would not be original for that serial number, nor would any barrel dated for 1918.

The rifle has been overhauled, re-barreled, refinished, re-stocked, and re-assembled from mixed parts. In addition, as a low number, the rifle is generally considered unsafe for shooting. The rifle, therefore, is valued in the $500-$600 range.

The rifle, however, may have been issued to the USMC. If so, then the asking price is reasonable. More and better pictures are required to make that determination.

        Hope this helps. Good Luck!

        J.B.
