    USMC Remington 1903?

Does anyone have one? I might have found a decent one but the only hint towards USMC service is a punch mark in front of the serial number.

I don't have one, but if I remember correctly John Beard told me that quite a bit of the early production that didn't go to NZ was given to the Marines. I'd bet there were quite a few Remingtons on Guadalcanal.

Scott Duff claims that a good many of the Marines who went to Guadalcanal were issued brand spanking new Remington '03s. Not all of them, maybe not even a majority but a lot of them. It's an interesting historical tid bit.

I read that also in one of either Lt. John George or Roy Dunlap's tomes.

A punch mark in front of a Remington serial number is no indication of USMC issuance.

          Hope this helps.

Is there anything USMC service related identifiable on Remington 1903s? Might be a nice addition to my USMC 1903 family I've got going...

To my knowledge (Please correct if I'm wrong) I've never seen a Remington M1903 with USMC provenance identified. I'm sure they're out there.

Remington M1903 rifles exhibiting evidence of USMC issuance are very scarce.

                  John,

What would the "evidence of USMC issuance" be ? I would think that with new production rifles being issued there would be no need to "number" the bolts or stipple buttplates, etc. I associate those practices with rifles re-built by the Marines. Or is that what you meant ? A Remington rifle that they actually had in inventory long enough to overhaul ??

                  Thanks,

                  Emri

i have yet to see or own a USMC Remington 1903...not saying it didnt happen...just that it would be rare.
if it aint broke...fix it till it finally is.
