the ,270 was made off the 30-03... not the 30-06.. most short chambers are short at the shoulder area, and not in the neck//just an idea
if it aint broke...fix it till it finally is.

Yep, I'm aware that the .270 was developed from the 30-03 whose neck was reduced down to .270'. Since his barrel is or at least was originally chambered in 30-06, to get it chambered to 30-03 would only necessitate lengthening the Neck of the 30-06 chamber out to the length of the 30-03 neck which is 2/10's of an inch longer and which of course is what was taken off of the neck length of the old 30-03 to begin with to create the 30-06. I don't see how a reamer for a .270 chamber could help anything. The 30-03 and the 30-06 brass are dead on identical except for the difference in their Neck Length (.2"), so he would only need a chamber reamer for a 30-03 to lengthen the 30-06 neck to create a 30-03 clambering.
The 30-03 reamer would only need to lengthen the neck of a 30-06 chamber .2" to allow chambering of a 30-03 cartridge. How could the smaller diameter of the .270 reamer's neck cut out the required .2" of neck length necessary to chamber a 30-03 cartridge? The .270 reamer is too Small in the neck. .308 vs .270. It hasn't the correct Diameter at the neck, even though it would be long enough in neck Length. The cutting teeth of the .270 reamer would just spin within the larger diameter 30-06 (.308) chamber neck.

There's a company that sells 30-03 brass that's made from .270 Winchester brass. They also sell loaded 30-03 ammo too. It has a 220 grain bullet loaded down to about 2,000 fps for safe use in old Lever Actions, and so would certainly be more than safe for a Rod Bayonet 1903 Springfield.
I think I'm going to order some of their brass and load my own ammo that will duplicate the old military 30-03. I'll have my wife take Video of me firing it at a 100 yard target and will post an image of the grouping on it. Oughta be pretty neat!
