Which Stripper Clips Best in the M1903

My grown son is thinking about shooting in a CMP match using his '03.

I note that both Sarco and Numrich have for sale not only surplus World War II Brass '03 Stripper Clips (expensive) but also the cheaper, modern M-14 Rifle Stripper Clips. Seems to me that an M-14 Stripper Clips would work just fine in an '03.

Then someone was saying something about using the Swedish Mauser Stripper Clips in an '03??

Based on price alone, he would prefer to use the M-14 Stripper Clips IF they can be used in his '03.

    What is Best???

    THANKS!!!

Creedmore Sports sells new stainless steel clips for $4.95/pair. I've been using mine for years and they still work well.

My experience in CMP match shooting with the three clips is that the Swedish Mauser is the best one. The original 03 clip is many times a one time use clip because the tit will break and the clip won't retain rounds. The M14 clips are too loose and do not fit the 1903 receiver very well. The Swedish Clips hold the 30.06 rounds firmly but not too tight, fit the receiver nicely and are reusable. The only clip I use now.

The 03 Springfield stripper clips have two stops or bumps where the M14 only has one. This allows the M14 stripper clips to insert too far.

The US 03 striper clips are not very durable especially the brass clips.

The best surplus stripper clips for the 03 Springfield are the Swedish Mauser clips.

I agree some of the Mauser clips work really well. The shiny silver ones are usually nice. Trouble is when you buy them you really don't know how well they will work. Champions Choice sells some really super good stainless ones that you will find are "heck on wheels." Not too expensive either.

I use the stainless steel ones from Champions Choice. I wouldn't mess around with anything else, the ones from Creedmore look like the same thing. You're not trying to be period correct so use good, new clips not something used, old, and designed for single use. I would also recommend you get two pair. You should have three filled clips with you on the line, one to load the rifle on command, one to reload during the string, and the the third is for those times when something bad happens while reloading. It's easier to just grab another loaded clip when one comes apart on you. Your son should make some dummy loads and practice a little. Even just ten minutes really helps. There are no alibis in CMP so no second chances. The new stainless clips work real well in 1903s, he'll have a blast.
