    M1922 Chance

I have a chance of buying a M1922 22 cal springfield Rifle. I wonder If I can get any info for serial number 14254B. All parts appear correct. The B however in the serial number appears to be double struck. Is that common on the M1922's?

The B would indicate that the rifle has been upgraded from one of the earlier versions ( 1922 or 1922M1 ) to a M2. Since the B is hand struck by the arsenal doing the upgrade, a double strike would be possible. Pictures always help in an evaluation.

This will be a reworked 1922 M1, likely a service model. The B will appear double struck, upside down and occasionally be absent.

When the bolt was replaced with the M2 bolt at SA or an arsenal the serial number of he rifle would have been engraved on the bottom of the bolt with dc elec. pencil.

Half of the Springfield .22's I see have mismatched bolts. That is no problem if it headspaces correctly. It will be more valuable to a collector if the bolt is matching.
