Springfield 03 feeding problem question

The problem is the feeding of the last round, it will bind/pinch about half way to the chamber between the receiver side and follower and will not move until I force the follower down to releases the binding, it will do this regardless if loaded with from a 5 round stripper or just one round at a time or with the cutoff on or off, I've swapped milled 03 followers but no change, I'm at a loss of what next to try, any thought?

Remove the stock, reinstall magazine assembly, tighten action screws and try feeding dummy rounds. If problem disappears, it's likely the inletting needs to be deepened to allow the mag box to approach the receiver more closely when assembled with stock. If it's still jamming, put a small chamfer on the inside top edges of the box to help prevent the follower from catching on it during feed. Also deburr any sharp edges on the bottom of the follower.

I had similar. It was referred to as a trapped follower. The gap between the mag box and receiver is too wide. The follower gets stuck between the two parts.

I just bought a stamped follower for the quick fix.

I had the same problem. It turned out to be 2 things, a poorly inletted stock and a bent trigger housing, preventing the mag well from fitting to the bottom of the receiver. Fixing the stock was a PIA, the trigger housing was minor, but delicate adjustment.



Persuasion from a lead mallet on a lead ingot did the trick.


This was a slow, tedious process. This was also a repro stock, not USGI. I nood to post pics of the finished stock.

Had one that almost ran me crazy getting the last round to feed. Turned out to be an incorrect magazine spring with too much tension. Put a new in the wrap spring in and it feed perfectly.

THANKS to all, it turned out to be a poorly inletted stock that I was able to shim slightly and a mag. spring switch out, it's running fine now.
