I have heard from the Thompson Crowd that "Apple Cider Vinegar" will remove the rust with out affecting bluing, have not tried it yet. Vinegar will removed bluing and rust, so I would not recommend it

That's interesting I've never heard of that. I'll give it a shot thanks

DO NOT !!!! Repeat, DO NOT use a pencil eraser !!! It WILL remove finish as well as the rust. They are as abrasive as polishing compound.

I am not sure why so many people are against the steel wool. I use it every day on guns. It won't hurt blueing at all unless you go crazy with course #1 or #2 grade. It will make parkerized or other matte finishes shine more than they did so be careful with it there.

        FWIW,

I've never had it remove a parkerized finish. Used it many times after purchasing a "new" surplus weapons. Just sayin'.

Thanks for the tips. Looking forward to getting rid of the rust.

Anyone know about the NS bolts?

Get Kroil in the spray can, Works great. I bought a freckly 1943 colt, soaked in kroil for a few weeks and rust was gone.
