1903 photo's with the iPad camera...

I'm experimenting with the camera on the iPad my wife got me. I'm not too happy with the washing out effect of color when a bright area is in the picture's background. Oh well, enjoy the pictures of the two rifles. One is a Rock Island 03 and the other a Springfield 03. The rock island might be one that was completed at Springfield Armory during the 1st World War. Though I know of no records indicating that such was being done during this time, someone who's known to be quite knowledgeable on the subject told me that the Rock Island's metal finish appears to be identical to what Springfield Armory was producing for a short while in 1918. Beats me. Anyway, each of the rifles has a barrel date of 7-18. I've never oiled the stocks. The sheen seems to be the original Linseed Oil finish from the Armory/Arsenal. Both rifles have all their original parts as originally assembled including the serrated triggers that don't show up in the photo's.

Fred, I'd be more than happy to take those old relics off your hands. Being the kind, caring, sensitive guy that I am.

          Fred,

The pics indicate to me you need to invest on some Roundup and a Weedeater, both of which are on my "to-do" list for my day off this week. :^)

Oh, the weed eater wouldn't run yesterday and will have to go in for service. You can see it just barely peeking out from behind a tree in one of the photo's. and see it behind a rifle in another. Ha, this being a 110 year old house in the country with Guineas, Peacocks, Chickens, Cats, Dogs, Horses and other critters all around, I don't trim the place up like a home in the suburb. I leave the rough grass growing for the critters to hide and nest in on the immediate 8 acres around on our hill around the house. The horses keep the other 50 acres trimmed pretty well where the creek runs through. I just keep things trimmed a bit around here to allow the birds to easily move around and eat the bugs.

I think you're just looking for an excuse to post pictures of those magnificent rifles of yours!! LOL!

Oh well Hell Yes I am! Otherwise I'd be just sitting around here in my retirement drinking beer and wishing somebody would come by for a visit. There isn't another home for about a mile from here and you guys are the only persons I know and visit with. All the other people live in the town and except for the guy who makes Pizzas down at Cubby's gas and groceries (and pizza), I don't ever get to visit with anybody except my wife. She has no interest whatsoever in these rifles or any of my stuff. Sigh...
I asked the husband of my youngest niece if he would be interested in getting all of my rifles and bayonets and what-not that I have around here when I get too old to get around one day. He's a former Marine and is a Cop up in K.C. I figured he'd enjoy them. He wasn't interested. Go figure THAT out. So much for Marines and Cops. So I guess they'll all go into the funeral pyre with me to take to Valhalla.

I guess that's one solution to your estate gun collection.

Fred, I've got one son and two grandsons who'd snap those up in a second. To preclude any arguments, I've already got an agreed-on list of who gets what. Daughter is okay with that....just as long as she gets the carbine. Oddly enough, the grand-kids are more attracted to the old muskets than the newer weapons.

Or he could volunteer to do some Hatcher low number receiver testing for us, shoot a large quantity of cupro-nickel tin can ammunition dipped in grease...followed up with an 8mm round.

Nice pictures, and good use of Apple products outside of a Starbucks accessory.

Honest Injun, I'd rather hand it all out to you guys than to see it fall into the hands of the unwashed masses. LOL. You think that I'm kidding...

I was just yanking your chain, I'm sure you know. I wish I had a placed in the country where no yard work was required but to keep it mowed a little bit around the house so snakes are easier to see.
