Just got a mint 1903a3 help pleaselo

I need info, bought at an auction for 750.00 got the army paperwork were the guy bought it and I guess put it in the closet. No wear, never shot, still has dust bunnies in parts of it. Has an SS on the stock by the button end. All the cartuses are there, light but there. Double p stamped, the barrel is dated 12-42 with ord bomb and R A. 20150702_194507.jpg20150702_194539.jpg20150702_194239.jpg20150702_194221.jpg20150702_194326.jpg

Welcome. Looks like a nice one. I think 12-42 is the right barrel for the serial number. I think you got a good deal. Are you going to post any other pics?

I was wanting to find out if it might be a new manufacture never issued, or a rebuild. I haven't fired it just because if it's never been fired I don't want to mess that up. The rifling has no wear. There is still causmoline in parts of it. Parkarization is all good. The sight hood has never been off. I thought there might be some experts here who can help. I have to do the photos from my phone, my iPad is terrible with Picts. I will get some more posted. I also want to know what the SS stands for, I read somewhere that it was for serviceable. Not sure if that is true or not. And when did the CMP start? Could this have been a first CMP gun?

Looks to be a rebuild. Remington used blued parts on everything but the receiver, barrel, and safety. It appears that everything on that one has a phosphate refinish.

        What are the stock markings?

The OG mean it was rebuilt at Ogden Arsenal. Looks like it still has some cosmolene on it.

The rifle is indeed a rebuild - I agree with Johnny. The stock is from a later M1903A3. The barrel is original to the receiver, though. With the paperwork, you did pretty well at the price you paid.
