In the endless discussion of what was the best all-around bolt action battle rifle of the WW1-WW2 period there are partisans of the SMLE, K98k and 03 Springfield who all have their points, but few, if any, can doubt the aesthetics of the '03 or the quality of its manufacture. On the target range, with its windage adjustable rear sight, it has to be the best
"as issued" rifle of the three while still winning the category for looks. Of course, on this forum, one would expect the outcome of any vote.
