    Smith Corona bolt

I recently checked a SC rifle that had been restocked with an unmarked C stock, machined hardware bands and trigger guard and had the bolt handle replaced by welding on a commercial handle to fit a cut out in the stock. The bolt handle stud remained and has a stamped "eight" on top. Is this a correct marking for a SC bolt or is it a replacement bolt? I know the light stamped "X" appears on most SC bolts. I am considering the possibility of converting it back to original as I have some SC items but not an original bolt.

    Seasons' Greetings!

A bolt stamped "8" atop the handle is a Remington M'03-A3 bolt. The bolt would not be original to a Smith-Corona rifle.

    Hope this helps. Merry Christmas!

Thanks John, I had my doubts about it.
