    Bolt identity question

Who made and approximately what year is a straight handled 1903 bolt no markings except a small flaming bomb under the bolt handle and a small gas port. Thanks and happy holidays!!

Sounds like a Rock Island. Anything stamped on the safety lug?

Check on Vishooter. JB's bolt chart shows a couple of NS RIA bolts, that have the shell and flame under the handle, from the 1918-1919 time period. RIA liked using that little bomb stamp on a LOT of their parts during that time.

Nothing anywhere. But I also think it is an RIA from the 1917-18 time period

          Seasons' Greetings!

A small flaming bomb with a number underneath stamped beneath the bolt handle is a Rock Island subinspection mark from late 1918-early 1919. But the bolt should also be marked "NS" on the safety lug. Absence of the "NS" marking and the number underneath the flaming bomb draws the bolt's identity into question.

          Hope this helps. Happy Holidays!
