Custom gunmaker

Anyone know of a custom gun maker initials V L S working in the 20s and 30s? Cleanly stamped under the chamber, circumferently forward of the receiver.

It is built on a low number '03 and has a very European style stock. Slight schnabel tip, checkering panels for offhand shooting, exaggerated fluting of the comb for a right hand shooter. Not a reworked stock, made from scratch. Everything is nicely done.

Could very well be the owners initials. However there were literally hundreds of gunsmiths back in those days who built up rifles. The big guys most always marked their work very clearly, but they also did what the customer wanted!
