    Model 1917 Point of impact

I need a little help. At 100 yds what is the point of impact (POI) versus the point of aim (POA) on the target, using the battle sight ? The same question at 300 yards? Using the large apature, I really like the sight picture and would like to know if my rifle is in the "norm". I've been getting a differenceof about 12 in POA vs POI at 100 meters. Plus, I don't have access to a 300 meter range yet (I'm working on it) but when I do I'd like to know what to expect at that distance.

The battle sight setting is for 400 yards.

IIRC (and don't count on it!) - back in my BCT days, our Battle Zero was set at 200 yards. If someone was closer in, you aimed at their belly. At 200 yards (or thereabouts), you'd aim at their chest. If they were out at 300 yards, you aimed at their head. In all three cases, you'd hit them in the chest.

Perfect, thanks for the info, that's very helpful, I know I've read that before but I've forgotten about it. Like most guys, I'm used to the flat trajectory of the 5.56 out to 300 meters. The 30-06 is a little different. I think I'll use the ladder sight instead of the battle sight on my 1917. My challange is to hit a 10"x10" steel plate at 300 yards. I'll adjust my ladder to do this. This is for a side match at the Zoot Shooting National Championships. The contest is to hit the steel gong at 300 yards prone, 8 shots, 8 hits is the max score, in case of a tie, fastest time determines the winner. Last year I used an M1 Garand, this year I'd like to use my 1917 as it's much more period correct.

I prefer the ladder sight anyway. Better sight picture.
