While back posted some P14 and M1917 questions. Bought the 1917 and got it today. Nice strong bore clean undamaged muzzle. Red paint residue on barrel end of stock. English broad arrow stamps on receiver and stock. Rack number on stock. Initial impressions are good. Should have time to shoot tomorrow. Took a couple pics.

ive not even hardly worked the action. just no time to shoot for fun...
its got some chrome plated parts i need to have stripped but i need to learn how to break it down first...
its got a 1 groove barrel on it that dates right and doesnt look too bad (if i recall lol)...Comment

Hmmmm.......if my memory works correctly, M1917's can have a varied number of lands and
grooves depending on either original barrel or a replacement barrel. Also, I seem to remember that the original twist is five lands and grooves and a left hand twist. HTH. George in NHComment

Okay went to range with this M1917 along with other rifles. Per previous owner he has owned since early 1990s and never shot it. Shot off bag at 100. First group of 5 was three inches, I was like not bad but not great. Cleaned barrel real good. Next 3 groups of 5 was 2 inches, 2.30 inches, and 2 inches this Made me happy. I was shooting 69 Lake City M2 ball.
The stock is oil soaked. Sitting in the sun today it was bleeding oil. I'm going to work on that this week. Good day at the range today.Last edited by p246; 06-19-2013, 08:53.Comment

Marks I've found so far..I'll get pics tomorrow. English broad arrow on rear sight protector, right side of stock, bottom of stock in front of palm swell. In same area of palm swell is what I call the rectangular tower stamp. In font of that is number 11. Flaming bomb on left side of receiver and bolt handle.Letter K on bolt handle with matching serial number (1113124). Flaming bomb on barrel with 9-18 under it. R on front sight base.E on safety with other unknown stamp. E on bolt shroad and EN on bolt. There is another stamp on bolt but I can't make it out. That's what I found so far.Comment

I want to pull old oil that's bleeding out of stock. I usually wrapped in toilet paper or paper towels, put stock in greenhouse for a few hours then wipe down with denatured alcohol. However I'd like to keep what paint is on it. I wonder if D.A. would take the paint off. I'm not sure what the Brits used but I heard it was cheap oil base. Any one know.Comment
