While cleaning and re organizing my garage,I came across a 1917 barreled action..I think it came with a bunch of 03A3's I bought several years ago.The odd thing is,The receiver is marked with what appears to be hand stamped letters approx 1/8 in high ERA.Below it is the 5 digit ser# that looks like a normal stamping. Any ideas on what or why this odd marking as opposed to the normal makers stamp ??? I'd appreciate any info..Thanks,Steve

Midvale Steel was the umbrella corporation under which Remington operated at the time. A new rifle plant was built at Eddystone to build Pattern 14 rifles for the Brits.

And the Remington and Winchester were marked with an R and a W. These markings were carried over on early 1917's, I have seen a Winchester 1917 with a W stamp on the reciever. So be sure what you are dealing with, tho there are other ways to ID each type. You can never go home again.Comment

As usual
You are correct,as usual. When I was at the gunsmiths yesterday to remove the barrel (demilled),I noticed small lettering on the bottom of the barrel,I saw P-14,The smith said show me the bolt face.He took 1 look and said that's a P-14..303, not a 1917. So now I have a new project for a rifle I don't have...Best day I've had in a while. Thanks again for your help......Now the search for parts begins....Comment
