    A Question for You Mauser Guru's ......

I know that a Yugo Mauser M48 (and variations) is a large ring action but with a shorter receiver than a standard 98k. My question is........... Will a 98k barrel fit an M48? Will the barrel require any modification to fit? Are the barrel contours different between a 98k and an M48? TIA

I don't know if you specifically want to put a 98K barrel on your Yugo receiver for some reason, but if you're merely looking to rebarrel a Yugo that has a shot out barrel, Sportsmans Guide has NOS Yugo GI replacement barrels for about $60. www.sportsmansguide.com

I want to install a Norwegian 98k barrel in 7.62 on a Yugo M48 action. That is why I need to know how a 98k barrel will fit on a Yugo action.

Both are large ring should be just fine of course headspace will have to be set but should work well with the 308 round. Are you putting it back in the military stock or sporter stock?

I just learned today from a knowledgeable source that though they are both large ring actions a 98k barrel will not fit in a Yugo 48.
