Recent find at Cabela's of all places.....

I drove down to Cabela's in Marysville, WA looking for a bow for my daughter. I stopped by the gun area to look around and saw a Mauser carbine in the rack. I picked it up to look and saw that it was a Czech made VZ33 (VZ 16/33). Small lightened carbine made for the Finance and Customs officers. I had only seen one other of these still in military trim in over 30 years of collecting. Needless to say I did not let go of it, and it came home with me. These rifles were the predecessor to the German G33/40.

Enfield, everything else is just a rifle. Unless it's a Garand.

Neat! Saw several in Mess-O-potamia, however, the crest was usually polished off (or nearly so) for some unknown reason. Would have been nice to have a bring-back program like in the past, alas.

Cabela's is hit or miss. When they started their 'gun library' they were, collectively, VERY naive and asked the moon for junk, while passing off the occasional sleeper for next to nothing. They seem to have corrected that situation by asking too much for everything, but what really got me was their snooty attitude (from the Ace Hardware of gun shops, mind you, where everything has been MBA'd down to the lowest common denominator) when told that some of their descriptions were bogus, and that their mixmasters did not warrant the asking price. Been there, won't go back - don't even browse them online anymore. Hal was lucky, and found a really nice piece.
