S/147/G - mismatch. It's an RC that has been boogered with, but I still think it is a nice one

Why do you say its an RC? Mostly matched, original? blue, Any marks on stock? Stock is walnut as it should be. I see no 'crossed rifles' stamping. G dates are hard to find, I think you have a decent/nice rifle there!

You are correct. THe bolt has no letter code and the number font is different than the receiver numbers. Nice looking rifle though.

I think some of it has been renumbered. I had one like this a while back. And it reminds me very much of the one I had. But it almost looks like some metal was removed and restamped. But still it's a nice rifle and I bet a heck of a shooter!

That is a neat find! Current issue of Man at Arms has a feature article on a similar rifle which started out as a 98, converted to 98k, issued to SS and eventually ended up captured in Vietnam.

It has a beautiful bore with no pitting and strong rifling. I just picked it up and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. I'll take it out and give it a try after I get back from my elk hunting trip.
