    First Mauser.

This rifle is in good condition and the price of $250.00 seemed reasonable. The receiver is marked ar 41 on top and s/42G and 24G1 on the side. The serial number is 1167 but the bolt is numbered 1067. The only matching parts are the barrel and receiver. The bore is excellent. The stock is not laminated and has no hole though there is a small hole in the butt plate. Is there anything interesting about this rifle? I know next to nothing about Mausers but I am about to begin learning.

Hard to say without pictures. But based on ur description a 250.00 shooter is a fair price in my area as long as it's not sporterized.

Congratulations on getting it at a good price. Interesting the stock doesn't have the firing pin take down hole.

Your rifle was made in Mausers Berlin plant in 1941, code ar. You have a mixture of parts which indicates a Russian/capture & rebuild or a so-called "restoration" by a collector. Is there an X somewhere on the Reciver? The stock is probably a late war one when the takedown disk was eliminated and a hole drilled thru butt plate for this use, altho I would expect it the be laminated. The S/42G is a Mauser Obendorf code for 1935. The 24G1 means nothing to me and you do not say where "on the side" is. If you shoot it I would check headspace first. Good price for a mix-master or an RC, but little collector value.

Thanks guys, this is going to be fun. I will copy the info here and start a documentation of this rifle.

After further review, the rifle has been reblued. I don't know how I missed it. My guess is that I expected early Mausers to be of high quality. Even a causal inspection would have shown it, but the allure of a gun deal got the best of me. It has happened before.

That matters little in this case, as I said its not a valuble collectable, but rather a nice looking 'shooter'. I if you want one of these in original condition, matched numbers, etc. save your bucks till you get about 1200 or 1500 of them!

Don't get me wrong, I am delighted with this rifle. The guy I got this one from has a collector grade that he showed me. I wouldn't be happier if I had that one.
