From several months ago. Day of shooting groundhogs/woodchucks in West Virginia. Long eye-relief scope on B-Square mount. The mounting is a temporary affair, as it can be reversed without damaging or altering the rifle from original form. Handloads, a good shooting buddy and decent weather. A banner day! 100-year old rifle earns her keep.

how do you like the 6.5x55 cartridge?

The 6.5x55 Swede round is kind to my shoulder. Especially since I primarily shoot stationary off either a bench, off shooting sticks or a shooting mat. The angles encountered, along with the metal butt plate, make for painful recoil when shooting 8mm, 7.62x54 or .30-06 in most military surplus guns. Shoot it from my M96, my CG63 and a Norwegian Krag. Fun to reload. I'm just careful with my brass as not to mix up the loadings. Allows me to neck size only for each individual rifle, extending the life of my costly Lapua brass.

Given the long throat with the 6.5. do you find accuracy good with short bullets?

I keep to 139 gr fodder for the two Swedes, and 160 gr round nose "oldy-timey" bullets for the Norwegian Krag. All loaded to reloading manual length. Not a lot of experimenting going on for these old guns. Just enjoy having them out on occasion. Haven't cast the chambers or anything, but suspect long throats since they are military arms.
