Interesting bit on my SOG Mauser

Just unpacked the box, it's a bcd 43. Attached to the right side butt stock is this bit. Looks as if it's been there a very long time. Ideas anyone? I'm thinking some sort of local unit ID?

More pictures of other distinguishing marks might help, assuming the numbers match etc.

I agree. It is an up side down dog. Cute.

From SOG it is most likely a RC, the stock could have come off any rifle! Probably just some personal decoration put on by a previous user! Unit ID? not hardly!

An upside down schnauzer! Yeah, I can see that. I had no clue. So probably some bit of soldier art. I like it. Dragon64, I was going to photo the markings this weekend after a cleaning. Haven't even swabed the bore yet. Been following your postings on CMP forum, same topic. This is the batch SOG just put on the market with the Nazi markings intact, a mix-master but probably still contemporary to WWII.

                The markings. Nothing extraordinary.
