    Spurious USMC Markings?

Picked this up a while ago. Was curious what the board members thought of the markings.

Pictures are too small to really tell. The "S" in the U.S.M.C. looks wrong. The unit markings inside the flap look legit, outside ?

Look at the difference in the style of lettering on a genuine piece compared to what you have. You will see that style of seriphed letters on genuine pieces of most vintages of web gear.

I have seen USMC markings on items with serifs & sans-serifs. I own several books on USMC equipment and uniforms. But not one of them shows any cleaning gear or equipment.

                Thanks,

Do you have any piece of USMC marked equipment with the lettering style like that cleaning rod case? That C6573 number on the back of that case is an Army Ordnance SNL number. As I said the interior markings look real but I seriously doubt the USMC markings are but that's just my opinion.

Just had a response from a dealer of Surplus Parts and Webgear. He stated : The markings were put on by the Marine Corp., not the contract. The maker FAL was Fals Manufacturing in Des Moines, Iowa. The production was from Oct 44 thru Jan 45.
