would like to know how wide the original rear metal clip that goes over the wood hand guard is supposed to be.

121 views and nobody has an original model 10 they can measure the metal clip for me?

Maybe you only have reproduction handguards and clips. Guess that could be it.

I'm not surprised that nobody has responded. Those guns are few and far between, particularly ones that still have their original wooden hand guard. I seem to recall that there were only three to four thousand Model 10 trench guns procured by the Military, and a lot of those were later converted to riot guns.
