    Ithaca 37 Trench Serial

I know the Ithaca records are available, can someone check these for me?

57847 on front of receiver and right underside of barrel

Bomb W RLB ON receiver “P” and cross on barrel

    61596 on receiver and barrel

Bomb w RLB on receiver (reblued) “P” no cross

Is The wood serialized? Do I need to pull the buttstocks? What if wood is unnumbered?

Canfield on page 86 of his combat shotguns book indicates there were 5 shipments dated June 19, 1942 100 guns; June 27, 1942 350 guns; July 3, 1942 400 guns; July 15, 1942 549 guns; July 20, 1942 20 guns. The serial numbers he lists between those five shipments are 57,800 to 62,123 so both your numbers fall in that range. He indicates on page 133 that the inside of the stock inlet was generally stamped with the gun's serial number and the number is only visible if the stock is removed.

Scout, I appreciate the quick response. I too am looking at Canfield book. Neither of the shotguns have numbers on the inside of the stock as I have removed the stocks to check. I thought that Ithaca records specifically identified trench guns by serial number. Waiting for Tom Doniphon or scosgt to check in.

They were both shipped as trench guns. Yes, buttstocks are normally serial numbered to the receiver. Did you examine the higher numbered gun? Because according to my data it was refinished.

Correct. 61596 is refinished. Neither gun has numbers on buttstock once removed.
