I understand the the U.S. armed forces has bought some 50,000 for all branch's since 1991. I have shot one and it was reliable and well made.I wonder if they will ever sell any surplus down the road. They are current issue even today.

I doubt you'll ever see any on the surplus market.They'll be chopped or go to PDs or other police agencies.Mossberg has several 590A1 Mil Spec models commercially available.

Mossberg sold some guns on the commercial market that were thought to be contract overruns. These had the heavy barrels and all metal trigger groups with sling swivels. They had a unique serial number prefix "USA" to distinguish them from the real military contract guns which had a "US" prefix. The same gun is now sold as a 590 A1 with a Mossberg item number 51411. The serial numbers on these guns do not have the "USA" prefix.
