Another question on my ww2 m97 riot gun

I might be beating a dead horse here, but please bare with moi.

I was told that my stock is correct type but most likely is a replacement with no proof marks. It has the Winchester steel BP. My question is..........
Did they generally alter the stock to mount the steel BP, or did they generally fit without modifying the wood. I would like to find the correct ( original ) BP, but not sure if it would fit if the stock has been altered to mount the steel BP.

If someone could send me a photo of the original BP that goes on the M97 Riot gun, it would help. I know there are reproduction BP out there.
    any help would be nice

That looks just like a couple of pre-64 Winchester Model 70 buttplates I had.
