    M 97 late trenchgun

OK guys. No one seems to know the answer to this one. Lots of speculation. On the pistol grip knob on my M97, stamped in very small letters is JPD 6. This shotgun is virtually in new and unused condition. Thanks, Big Larry

I'm imaging a Police Dept and the rack number.

Like: Jackson Police Dept #6 or whatever city that starts with a J.

My thoughts as well, but I would like to know for sure. The gun came from a seller in Arizona several years ago. Thanks, Big Larry

Police department but impossible to know which one. Probably sold to the PD around 1946-1950. That's a long long time ago. No one will be around who remembers. You might luck into the info, but unlikely.

The only city I know of in AZ with a name that starts with a J is Jerome, AZ. It's an old mining town right in the middle of the State south of Sedona. The mine closed down in the 1950s, and today it's an historical site that hundreds of thousands of tourists pass through every year. The City does have it's own police department. This is obviously a longshot, as the shotgun could have come from anywhere.

Thanks. I am just thankful they didn't put the marks in a conspicuous place. Got the gun cheap and it is virtually still as new. I guess I may never know, but thanks to all. Big Larry
