      I started to read and thought, nope. The Meteor was the first British jet fighter. Then it hit me...the Vamp was the first single engine jet fighter.

        Fascinating article.
        I am in no way a Vampire expert but the video of the jet looks suspiciously like a P38 lightning.

          Thought the same but not surprised. The USA and the UK shared a lot of ideas and technology back then. Remember, the P51 Mustang began as an improvement to the Spitfire, and the P38 design lent itself to jet propulsion.
