    Idiots working the polling places

Voted this morning. When I handed the a-hole at the desk my Passport ID card, he said "whats this?" I replied my photo ID. He claimed, I've never seen one of these before! After further discussion he accepted it, and I was allowed to vote. Our world is full of idiots!

Well, at least verification of ID was being enforced--which it isn't at many polling places.

If/when you renew your passport you can also apply for a photo ID card that has all personal info on it and is good as the passport itself in some countries. I use this card all the time. Too many folks do not realize there are other means of ID besides a drivers license. (yes, I one of those also).

Glad you voted and I think the outcome of a lot of State and local elections would be much different if a photo ID was required to vote.

I just reordered my passport. The card was an extra $30 and pretty much a Canada/Mexico thing. I just stuck with the book. But if I was on the border I would get a card.

This replaces my first reply which was dripping with sarcasm.

The people who work at polling places are volunteers who graciously give up some of their free time to make sure the election process runs smoothly. I strongly suspect a passport card was not covered in the list of acceptable IDs he was trained on. I personally have never seen a passport ID and I used to be an Immigration agent, though I vaguely knew they existed. So why don't we give the poor schlub who's just trying to facilitate the electoral process on his own time with no compensation a break.

In Arkansas, we have a poster inside each polling place showing examples of acceptable IDs -- anything from student IDs issued by colleges to Concealed Handgun Licenses.

Upon return from several years in Germany, I ended up working in Albuturkey for a while. I had a Wells Fargo savings account, but it was Wells Fargo of Arizona. Apparently the New Mexico banks were on a different database. I wanted somewhere to send my iNTEL paychecks, so I set up a local savings account. The sweet young thang at the front desk needed a valid form of ID, so I showed her my US Passport. She wanted a Driver's License, so I gave her my Arizona DL. She didn't like it, so I gave her my Bavarian Driver's License. She said that neither were valid & she had never seen either before. I told her to go get her supervisor, preferable a native English Speaker.

Guy with a 'what's your problem' attitude got in my face about not having a NM Driver's license, so I asked for a Bank Officer, who knew what a Passport was and was glad to explain it to the other morons. I got my account, my direct deposit set up, and left. Before I left New Mex. several months later, I was sure to close out my account, since if the Arizona Wells Fargo was as dumb as their New Messico cousins, I'd likely never get my money.
