    Argentine Sub missing ...

I hope they don't put off asking for help until it's too late,
which would be typical of desk jockeys.

probably already too late for help, and it will be nothing other than a salvage mission. sadly when a sub goes under, there is always a chance it wont come back up, and as we know diesel boats cant go under for extended periods of time.

Modern diesel-electric boats are a far cry from the WWII versions. The missing boat is an up to the minute German model and has an underwater endurance of 30 days. Not a nuke boat that can stay under indefinitely but not too bad. Russian Kilo class boats are even better, they can stay down 45 days.

no doubt they are worlds better, but if they were expecting communications from it and have gotten nothing, id speculate its about a 98% chance its sitting on the bottom somewhere, and not of its own choosing.

Help is already there or on the way, US Navy and NSA.

Nuke or diesel they all have a maximum depth, and gravity never sleeps.

When were the last survivors of a sunken submarine rescued?

To the best of my memory it was in 1939 in the Squalous sinking.

Not unsympathetic, but I always see an irony when these situations arise. Everyone has hopes of quickly finding a vessel which by design is supposed to remain undiscovered.

You have a point, but I'd assume if they knew they were at imminent risk of dying they'd give up their stealth really quickly, and start making all the "noise" they could.

This will become interesting in the days to come. May be another "Hunt for Red October" or they could have gone too deep and got crushed. The fact that they have not surfaced nor had radio contact is disturbing.

I don't think we know that they haven't surfaced, only that there has been no radio nor visual contact.

NPR said there have been a few brief flash type sat communications from the area.
