National Reciprocity

All very good for Alabama, but in MI---training 100 to 150 bucks, permit 100 bucks (maybe lil more by now), 100 buck renewal, every 4 or 5 years. We do have 'open carry' but when you get in a car it is considered 'concealed', so must be unloaded and inaccessible.

Figured about as much from Michigan because it is not one of the states on the list. AL honors the unloaded and inaccessible too w/o a permit. If you have a MI CCW do any of the surrounding states honor it?

Do states have a "right to regulate firearms"? The second amend. says they do not! The states can only regulate what the constitution does not!

Courts seem to take a different view.

Yes they do and it only shows what the liberal left has done to the country! The 10th. amendment, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people". In other words if it is in the Constitution the States can not touch it, if it is not the states can do what they want, subject to their peoples will.

Dave, it's unclear if you're suggesting that states can regulate firearms or cannot. The second amendment has the word "regulated" in it, and at that time (of the writing of the Constitution) the governments doing the regulating were overwhelmingly the individual states.

That is referring to the 'troops' not the arms or guns. Well 'trained', in other words. States and even towns have been regulating guns from almost the beginning, it has just never been challenged by the Feds. When a group or private citizen goes to court over it, the judge should go by the constitution, not his private feelings.
3-4 Courts recently ruled that Trumps immigration ban was un-constitutional, but the Supremes said 'a different view' was wrong! The Supremes have also reversed many anti-gun rulings, by lower Courts, over the past few years.
In this day and age I know that some things must change, too many nuts running around out there. But that is the job of the Feds, not the States. That is why I may sound a 'lil conflicted. Maybe the Congress should set up a uniform system that all the states can live with, agree to. Yeh, I know, fat chance!

I am well covered, with a Indiana lifetime license and an Arizona permit, in any state I might travel in. I obtained the Arizona permit before Ohio recognized Indiana's permit. The non-resident Arizona permit adds a few additional states but none that I am likely to travel in. I probably won't renew that permit.

The Indiana license does not have a training requirement and I do not see much difference in the statistics for the states that do and do not have training requirements. Most people with a license/permit will never be in a situation where a firearm will be needed. It is an individual responsibility to know the law and know how to use the firearms you carry.

I have had a Indiana license for forty years and I take the responsibility of knowing the current law and being proficient with firearms. I am also a NRA firearms instructor and was a NRA class C pistol coach for a few years.

As for National Reciprocity, I am doubtful that it will be a good law after they are finished with it.

Living in Ohio I am good in the surrounding states, I seriously doubt that I will travel to a "progressive" AO...too dangerous. Heck, I hate to go to Columbus!
