    When is a Pickup not a Pickup ? ...

    When Mercedes makes one.
As a Pickup lover who has owned a gaggle of them,
I find it a little obscene when the "rich and famous"
start buying them to show how 'hip' they are.
The bed will never see anything in it except maybe
    a case of champagne.
I see the new models purring around in Marin where
I enjoy my meager life style. These monsters have
beds roughly the same size as Model T beds, and
would be absolutely useless for Contractor work.

Premium brands have been racing loyalists by surprise — and the newest vehicle from Mercedes is none other than a pickup truck.

    Yeah, I know. Picky picky.

Could they be any less useful than a Ford or Chevy that has a bed so high that a 6'2' man cannot reach the floor over the side?

I won't go into detail unless asked but I used to own a Mercedes. It was the worse car by FAR that I have ever owned. It was also hard to get rid of. Even the MB dealership refused a trade in toward another car. They said "there's no market for a used Mercedes".

When I was developing training for the Singapore Army, they used Mercedes pickups in the same role we used the M37 Weapons carrier. I doubt Singapore would win a war, should she get into one, but her troops would die in style.

          1. The Mercedes-Benz pickup is basically a dressed-up Nissan.
          2. It's not sold in the U.S.
          3. There are optioned-out U.S. pickups that cost more.
          4. There is no shortage of pickups in the hands of U.S. owners that will never carry anything but golf clubs, band instruments, and large cases of paper towels from Costco.

when it has been remodeled, when fancied by the Elite and they make you feel like if you dont have it, you are not spinning. then its no longer a Pickup.

Cadillac and Lincoln both make pickups. The affluent buyers will not be using them to haul crap to the dump!

In the case of a Mercedes the truck IS the crap and you leave it at the dump.

I once worked as a service advisor at a local Chevrolet dealership back in the early 80's. Back then Chevy made a full size Blazer available with the 6.2 liter diesel. I believe half the women in Mobile, AL had one and drove them. Besides getting about 24mpg the vehicles were ideal for hauling kids and doing the shopping plus they were 4x4 and lifted to deal with the daily rains and street flooding. The women loved them, I don't think their husbands ever got to use them to hunt or haul with.

My 2000 Dodge Dakota 4x4 with the 4.7L motor still hanging in there. Firewood truck and when I have to tow something. On its second set of brake lines since Mother Nature reclaimed the ones put in at the factory.

I do not miss road salt and its corrosive effect on all things automotive.

I need a truck. My work/hunting truck is a 2006 - 2500 Dodge Ram with about 320 K on it and it needs attention on a regular basis. I bought a 2015 - 3500 Dodge Ram a couple of years ago primarily because of the Asin transmission and Cummins diesel, we call it the drive way queen. I think it might have 20 K on it. Bought that one as we have a 5th wheel trailer and the 2006 was getting untrust worthy and I did not want to hear what the wife would of said if it was broke down on the side of the road with 2 dogs. But it is a pretty fancy model - Laramie I think. I don't know what more crap a Cadillac or Mercedes could possibly have in it.

Not to mention steel bridges, and anything made of concrete. I wish Al Gore would apply some of his energy to this environmental crime.

A pickup is not a pickup when they cost more then a luxury car, and never see anything in the bed box but an occasional leaf----if the owner does not see it!
You can never go home again.

I doubt the Cad or MB would cost much more. You paid a bunch for a 3500 diesel Laramie.
