In the instances of a guy approaching you at your home with a supply of something to get rid of because his "boss say's to sell it all at discount to make room in the warehouse" or "this is a one time offer you ought to take advantage of", they are NOT in the same category as farmers or ranchers selling their home grown/raised produce at market.
These are crooked, slick movers of bad and inferior merchandise who avoid the police and taxes and who are mostly working for somebody else who gets all of the cash except for what the seller can bring in extra on top of what the boss's cut is.
Whether it's perfume, frozen meat, cutlery, or "leftover asphalt from a job somewhere" etc, it's a scam. Their "boss" is always moving his or her fly by night outfit around from city to city, offering promises of lots of tax free cash to industrious pedlers of his cheap crap. People who are naive, unable to find employment for some reason, and the young are employed by them.
Farmers markets are great. My wife and I go every week in the season to get fresh garlic, vegetables, and all sorts of stuff that can't be found elsewhere as fresh and varied. We're sure not liberals.
