I posted the story earlier but no one seems interested.
The Iran riots if encouraged by the President could
prove the beginning of the end for the Mullahs iron
grip on that country.
The Women don't want to be swathed head to foot,
they want to wear lipstick, high heels and generally
look like Women are supposed to look.
And I doubt all the Men want to walk around wearing
shaggy beards but they need encouragement, and
I hope they get it.
obama ignored the chance, but he was useless so
it's not surprising. Stir the pot, if those riots are
fed they could well get larger and cause real change.

Same comment I had last week. The Persians are proud of their civilization but hate their government. Treating them as if they and their government are one and the same as we do misses a long term opportunity. Too bad we don't have a State Department anymore.

Many of them do, but plenty of them don't--and they're the ones with the guns. Revolutionary Guards? The thousands of volunteers who traveled to Syria to fight for its Shia dictator?

This is why I describe it as a long term opportunity. No illusions about the nature of the current Iranian government or the Iranians who have hitched themselves to the regime. But it galls a good many Persians that they live in such a f*cked up state while the barbarians in Europe have erected much more functional civil societies.

The money was theirs, in frozen accounts. Letting them have it was part of a deal tokeep the Iranians from making nukes. Any time you do diplomacy with a rival or adversary it leaves you open to criticism from elements on your own side. Something Trump will discover if he ever tries it.

How much do the details of where the money comes from really matter to opponents of the policy? Not one bit, I would guess. If Trump does a deal with NK, then by definition they will get something, which means that someone will give them something, which means that someone else will criticize the deal.

Let them protest, bit¢h and moan about their current leadership. I read somewhere they want Mahmoud whackmedinnerjacket back in power, so I'm not overly sympathetic with their "plight". They seem to regard not only everyone else, but themselves as disposable humans, so let them begin thinning out their own herd before they get too hyped about their "Death to America" bumper stickers.
