Some years back, a section of freeway I drove daily to work was getting a couple of lanes added. They had just installed several miles of new light poles, but the lights weren't on yet. A crew of daytime landscapers managed overnite to yank out all the copper wires from all the lighting - they even had hard hats, traffic cones, flashing lights on the truck & trailer & reflective safety vests. Would'a gotten away with it, but one of the guys got greedy & broke open an electrical box & got fried.

The breaking afternoon news had an interview with a fireman said the guy was burning like a grease fire & they had to let him burn until the proper extinguishers to put him out arrived. The interview was pulled from the 10 PM news because some Mexican Rights group said it was "disrespectful".

Having once worked at the infamous Robert Taylor Homes (hi-rise projects) I saw how hard thieves will work and how ingenious they can be instead of holding down an honest job. Just one recollection in particular since it involves electricity:
Burrowing through a concrete wall to remove all the meters, just to steal all the copper busses. They did this live and even jumped the connections with lesser wire and metals so nobody would notice any power outages. Imagine opening up a reinforced electrical vault only to see all the meters for each apartment lying on the floor...and the building is still going!
