    Hypothetical UFO/Alien Question

Say the government really had alien tech somewhere in a lab.

Would you tell any of the politicians about it? Would you tell Trump? The Brits?

No. And I'd want to know why they'd towed my ship away.
    It was legally parked.

For me a lot would depend on the nature of the "tech" and how it was acquired.

I have no idea why one would even consider "telling" (random?) politicians about it? Why? Are they better than you or me?

Would I tell the POTUS about it, asuming he did not already know? Probably yes? WHY did you say "Trump" instead of "POTUS"? That reeks of wanting to start a fight over personalities. Would it have been OK to tell BHO, with no such qualification?

As to the Brits, refer to line one. Certainly we have a "special" relationship with them, but it would depend on how soon. If the news were potentially catastrophic, then I guess you'd have to tell a lot of people.

Some Congresscritters have oversight responsibilities. They're not exactly random. Trump v. a generic POTUS. Pick your own poison there.

I think it's possible that some programs can only be known to politicians under very heavily redacted circumstances.

Truman didn't find out about the Manhattan Project until he was sworn in. But Stalin was up to date.

Some 3rd-rate politico can't even dip his ding-a-ling into some drunk bimbo without the entire world hearing about it. What makes you think the gummint can keep alien technology under wraps for several decades?

That and the fact that the government lets subcontractors walk off with it's hacking tools as if the NSA was a poorly run job site and I'd say you have an excellent point.

Like a lot of things on this forum, the one dimensional thinking has people locked into tbe 1950's once again.

For anyone thats had the pleasure of handling sensitive material, its rarely always on wheels, sitting in a hangar.
If something was extracted from extraterrestrial intelligence, I doubt you'd know it to look at it.

If we're not the only intelligent (?) life in this Galaxy,
then how the Hell would another bunch of intelligents get here ?
Light speed is the universal speed limit so it would take many
lifetimes to get here and one of those silly looking Alien ships
that look suspiciously like lanpshades would be kinda cramped
for a crew on a several hundred year journey.
They'd need a huge ship with a movie theater, a beer and wine
                  bar, a brothel, a 5 star restaurant, a library, a sauna, and a nice
swimming pool. And that's just for starters.
                  Nah, I think we're alone.

Dogtag gets it. It takes hundreds or thousands of years for light(going at the speed of light) to get here from distant stars(where possible other creatures might live). Some sort of warmth is required for life. Anything we picture as a living creature needs it. Try starting your space ship at 400 below zero. Not saying we might not hear from them someday. Maybe a telegram or email, but we will never get to shake hands or....tentacles with them. You know how fast light moves, right? It's fast.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

And if we ever do get to meet an Alien specie
we probably will not be able to communicate.
We can't even communicate with our own
animal species, so what chance we could have
an intelligent conversation with something from
                      Andromeda ?
                      Hence the name "Alien"

Interesting peoples views on aliens. Maybe we are the aliens?
To answer togors question "It depends". It comes down to who knows it and how interesting or useful or threatening it is.

I've said this before: If and when they do arrive -
They'll have come from a planet that probably resembles
some hovel in the bowels of Libya so anyplace they land that
has soft green grass, trees and a lake will look like Paradise.
                          They won't be leaving -
                          and we won't be living.

Except to earths top military powers as well as personnel occupying long term positions within pertinent government jobs,
I cannot imagine what reason an alien species would have to allow humans to know of their existence or their presence.
We are an assortment of un inspiring creatures in whose midst occasionally appear individuals with exceptional intelligence.
Most alien species would probably taste like chicken to us anyway and so they avoid us.

I rough estimated that only every 300 to 500 years some person of exceptional intelligence (Da Vinci, Einstein, et al) comes along. The rest of us just maintain whatever system we belong to.
