Hear what you are saying. But, what does it matter. Alcohol is the number one drug problem in this nation. Has been for centuries. No telling how many deaths and injuries are directly attributable to alcohol. But, it's legal. Why? Two reasons. Money. It's that simple. It pays. It pays the folks who make it, sell it and tax it and benefit from the taxing of it. It's that simple. The other reason ... people want it. Again, it's that simple. People want it. Like folks buying alcohol illegally years ago, like people making it right now because it is their "mountain heritage," etc. They want it. And they are determined to have it. What it does to anyone else, they don't care.I'm waiting for the first bus or train crash, the first major multi-vehicle crackup-and the driver tests positive. And how much of this tax revenue will go to support users with the lung cancer and emphysema caused by smoking-or claim disability that makes them unable to hold a job.
Now there is a big push for marijuana to be legal. There is the great cry that it is so destructive to our nation. Of course the people making piles of money on it as a illegal drug WANT it to stay illegal. That's their money. They want their money. Money is the same reason some in law enforcement want it kept illegal ... puts money in their system for bells and whistles as a result of confiscating money, property, etc. It's a "all good business" mentality on the part.
Sooner than later marijuana will be legal in all 50 states, etc. The fed. govt. will make money off it the same way it makes money off alcohol and tobacco, etc. Excise tax brings in money off all that stuff. No one expects the alcohol industry to pay the costs of the damage it's "legal" products do to people, families, communities. Marijuana will be no different. It'll be as stylish to puff it as it was once to smoke cigarettes in the movies. No smoking rules/zones will be re-examined to the hue and cry of health advocates b/c the users and abusers will opine that their rights are being infringed by unreasonable and irrational concerns that are overrulled by the COTUS. Who knows. Given a strict interpretation of the COTUS, they could win. Don't like it. Don't like it a bit. But, don't see it being stopped. About like trying to unring a bell. JMHO. My point is nine times out of ten you have no idea what you are talking about. I should have known better then try and discuss anything with a National Socialist who isn't into thinking only "feeling".What's your point? That capital isn't flowing into driverless tech in the trucking industry? That long haul truckers especially aren't put in a tough squeeze? The job is very tough on the body. And yet for all of that, these jobs will be missed when they are gone. Looks like another case of if you don't like the message, attack the messenger, this time with a trivia contest.
Right now in this country the pressure on wages is still downward. Meanwhile in Sweden....

You summed it up nicely, the rest will follow suit to be legalized. May you live in interesting times!Hear what you are saying. But, what does it matter. Employers are having problems finding employees that can pass a drug test. My son hired a new employee for a job that has all the benefits, insurance, savings plan, retirement, etc. and the guy tested positive on his first day on the job.
We use to love to go to Durango, Colorado, but friends recently visited there and said dopers are ruining a once fantastic town.Comment

Sam, my point, if you'd stop and think for a moment, is that Capital is quite comfortable with legalization of weed, and the widespread impairment of people by all manner of intoxicants. Why is that? And if you think Capital takes the wrong position, what is the remedy? Does Capital always get its way?
(Hint: Think a auto-piloted truck with no sobriety issues hauling a load of legal weed to the nearby city.)Comment

Drugs are chemically mind altering using neurotransmitters and receptors. When the "normal" chemical interactions are altered many things do happen. Problem with cannabis THC is that the system will plateau and need more chemical reinforcement to achieve a stimulus although at a higher dosage. People with low tolerance[think beginners] are experiencing negative physical reactions due to over stimulations and the physical body reacts. In certain cases this can lead to death, although rare. The other side of addiction is with ethanol, due to developing of the brain the age at which a person becomes an alcoholic their emotional development stops. Alcoholic @ 14, emotional thought pattern is 14 regardless of chronological age. Comparing a chemical altering substance to a physical metallic item can you explain the correlation?
