    "Dunkirk"

Has anyone here seen this movie? If so, what did you think about it?

Saw it at a theater. I thought it was dragged out a little. Also saw the longest(in my opinion) glide of a Spitfire with the engine off I could possibly imagine.

To say the movie-makers took “artistic license” with this event, is a GROSS UNDERSTATEMENT!!

No, haven't seen it, But, I remember thinking Oh Oh
when I saw pics of the troops being evacuated with shiny helmets,
new uniforms and scrubbed clean faces. Not a speck of dirt anywhere.

Not a big fan of the directors style of telling individual story lines then merging them at different times in movie. Fighters used in movies were real, Bombers were models. It was criticized by press for lacking soldiers of color. The BEF at that time was all white except for a small contingent of Muslim Colonial troops operating pack mules (All from modern day Pakistan). Some of these soilderd were actually evacuated at Dunkirk but one unit was captured by the Germans. Showing French troops of color or merchant marines would have been historically accurate also. The French had pulled from its colonies already, and the British Merchant Marine had no restrictions on minority service in 1940. The yellow nosed German fighters is inaccurate at that time, but the director did that on purpose to help the audience follow the dog fight. You never hear the word Germans, they are always referred to as the enemy.

I’d recommend watching it as entertainment.

The movie was good enough. As mentioned the overlapping timelines take a while to catch on to. If you know that from the git-go you shouldn't have a problem. Much easier to buy into the long glide too. Just a bit of dramatic license is what separates movies from narrated reenactment documentaries.
