There's no pleasing some people ...

I can imagine how frustrating it must be to have to sleep
on the floor at an Airport, but what's the point of bitching
at the Airline when there's two feet of snow on the runway ?
Do these people who wish to go flying somewhere in the
middle of a storm expect planes to operate no matter what
Mother Nature throws at them ? If the Airline is not to blame
for the weather conditions, then why should they be expected
to supply the passengers with all the comforts of home ?
If you want to fly in bad weather then realize what might happen
and be prepared for some inconvenience.
Better yet, stay home and fly later.

I won't ever fly again! Here in the Midwest any part of the continental U.S. is 1500 miles away or less. So just a good drive for me.

It’s the old adage, if you’ve got time fly, if you’re in a hurry drive.

Under ideal weather & other conditions, all airline passengers know that, after being subjected to the indignities of body-searches, they'll be packed aboard like swine hauled to market--and don't much object, or they wouldn't be traveling for the trivial purposes usually given when they're interviewed by reporters during one of these big disruptions. "Going to a friend's wedding" is the most common answer I've heard, though today one said she was going to Aruba; I felt especially sorry for her.

When was the last time anyone got out of town? I have family all over the US. Driving time to cover 1,000 miles along the eastern seaboard is going to be 20 hours or so, perhaps less. But you might as well figure 20 hours. Like lots of folks, we want to see each other at particular times of the years. Christmas morning, my wife and I got up and drove to Hartfield Atlanta Airport. Check in was very simple. TSA - they were no problem. Same deal as going into a court house, school, etc. Read. Did some paper work. Boarded the plane. More paper work. Smidgen over 2 hours later ... deplane at LaGardia. Maybe 25 min. later ... I'm holding my little grand-daughter in my arms and we are celebrating Christmas w/ my daughter and SIL! Wonderful! New Years morning ... snow and ice, bitter cold. Same routine at LaGardia as previously at Hartfield. Flight back actually a bit quicker. Home about 4 PM. Next morning ... wake rested. Back to the office by 9 AM. Now ... why is that a problem? No matter what I was driving, going up would have been no less than 20 hours figuring gas, food, bathroom breaks, etc. Coming back ... we'd probably have been a couple of days given road conditions. My wife and I didn't blow over one work week of time traveling. We spent at most 8 hours. It just wasn't a big deal. Cost? We flew w/ Southwest. No silly bag fees. Plenty of room in the bags for gifts, etc. for the children and grand children. Everything we would have carried in a vehicle. Ticket cost? We've drove before. We've flown before. This time was no different. Tickets were cheaper than gas/food, etc. Going on up to Boston ... flying is always our best bet. Just don't understand anyone getting all bent out of shape about people flying somewhere rather than driving. True if you have a herd of family to move ... vehicle will likely work better. But we don't have a herd to move. It's just me and my wife. For us, flying is a good deal. Later this year her mother will take all the daughters on a trip down Mexico way. She has been doing it for years. They always fly. They always have a nice time. Could not even begin to conceive what it would take in time, money to drive such a distance and then return.

Now as to passengers left out of pocket ... the airlines have a choice. They can take care of their passengers. Or, next time, someone else will. We fly Southwest b/c of the customer service. There are other airlines we will not use as they are little better than a flying bus service. It's no different that roads/cities. There are some roads I will not drive b/c of the poor condition of the road or the Barney Fife police (Think ... TSA) who make driving those roads less worthwhile. We don't drive those roads or travel through those cities so we never have a problem with them. We never spend any money with them. We've never had a problem with Delta or Southwest. Both are excellent.

The days are long gone when many people really want to see the USA in a Chevrolet. Nowadays ... we board a plane and get where we want to go with more time, etc. to enjoy being there rather than just getting there. JMHO. Sincerely. bruce.

Sales of deluxe RVs, esp. motorhomes, are reported to be at an all time high.
