Old news. The bill was already passed. And it won't be the government selling them. The U.S. Army, as the DOD's agent for small arms and the organization responsible for disposition of small arms in excess of the government's needs, will, or probably already has, transfer the pistols to the Civilian Marksmanship Program, or more accurately, to the Corporation for the Promotion of Rifle Practice and Firearms Safety. The CFPRPFS/CMP is not a government agency or even a quasi-government agency. It is a private not-for-profit corporation chartered by the U.S. Congress. It receives no federal funding, but it is allowed to generate revenue through the sale of surplus .30 cal and .22 cal rifles—and now specifically surplus U.S. military M1911 series .45 cal pistols—that are transferred from the Army.

The CMP has been working for years to get these pistols into their revenue stream. The legislation required to do so was introduced a couple of years ago, but disapproval and delays by the previous administration kept it from happening. Now it has happened and the CMP has issued information on how the sales of the pistols will proceed: http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/1911-information/. It will be a separate and distinct process from its usual methods of selling rifles and will require a NICS check at the CMP before the firearm is shipped and another NICS check at the 01 FFL who will perform the transfer to the buyer.

And yes, thank you Mr. President, for not blocking the distribution to collectors and military history enthusiasts of these historically significant and valuable military surplus firearms.

Well, I've known for a few months that the CMP would be getting some M1911 pistols. But, in the last couple weeks CMP has announced they have them and are sorting them according to condition.

So what about the many thousands of M1 rifles & carbines that S. Korea had contracted to sell to Century Arms before the deal was queered by Bitch Hillary, who as Sec. of State had to approve the sale?

Not sure I'd want a military firearm from S. Korea after hearing how abused and negleted they are. Maybe for parts tho.

I would wait on that just to see. People said the same about the Lee Enfields coming in from Turkey a few years ago. Looked rough but all were very serviceable with some real gems in the mix. Then there were the truly real gems when the Italian Navy surplused off their rifles. S.Korea isn't exactly A-stan

One memo from the W.H. to the State Dept. would end all speculation; however, not enough time to do that and keep up with Twitter, I guess.

I'm in the crowd that suspects DJT isn't doing all his own Tweets. He surely can afford to hire a staff on his own dime to screen everything and get quick approvals for certain replies. Given that he's getting other things done and there isn't enough time in a day to spend on the volume of crap out there.

Well if you don’t buy the military firm, I understand the Navy and the Department of Defense are selling 16 inch battleship shells. That something to make a large boom!
